Against All Odds

Chapter Fourteen:

I wallked my way through the crowded hallway.

By afternoon, I waited for Tracy at the main gate. Then, after 5 minutes, I saw her walking toward me. I waved at her. But she doesn't smile, the usual way she does.

"Hi," I said as she was on my side.

"Hi," Tracy replied. There's a little tension between us.

"So," we both said. Then, we looked at each other and we laughed.

"Oh, Lizy," Tracy told me. "It was nice to laugh with you again."

"You think so?" I asked. She nodded. "Well, me, too, that's also what I think."

Then, silence.

"I missed you," I blurted out.Suddenly, small tears were forming in the side of my eyes. Tears were beginning to roll down my cheek.

"Me, too."I saw Tracy's eyes glimmer, too, but she's fighting it.

I bit my lip. "Trace, I'm really sorry. I know you should not be talking to me but I just wanna explain my side. I know that we've been thru a lot of stuffs for years but I don't want our friendship to end like this. For just one person... and it's Dave. I know we both like him, no, more like, love him,but please," I choked. "Please forgive me."

"Oh, Lizy," I saw Tracy's eyes filled with tears. "I have loved Dave soo much. It just hurted me when I saw you two kissed, like, we have never kissed that way before."

"I'm sorry, Trace. I never really meant to kiss him. I hated him that day,"I sniffed.I figured many people were passing by looking at us but who cares?This is something we have to figure out.

"Then, here's the problem, Lizy, I became jealous of you. You got this 'great' boyfriend and he loves you, too. Mine? Should I say Dave? Sometimes he's really up to something and I became suspicious of him, too. I always thought he never cared," Trace went on. "But then again, Dave did cared. We talked about it once but I'm just not sure. I'm still uncertain and on that day you two kissed, I figured you two look great together. I just can't accept the fact that he'll never be mine somehow. I guess Dave really likes you more..."

"Oh, Trace, I'm really, really sorry,"I looked at her sympathetically. "Please don't say that."

"Well, that's true," Trace continued. "Right from the start, I knew you two, have feelings for each other. You just don't want it to show coz Jeremy's there," she blabbed. "and I interfered coz I sized up the moment, Jeremy's with you and Dave would be mine somehow."

Wow! I thought to myself. Somehow, Trace did know.

"Oh, Tracy," Is all I could say. "How could things turn out to be like these? I thought we're best friends but we never tell each other what we feel anymore."

"I'm sorry, too, Lizy. I guess we're growing up. And I'm being selfish, I hate myself," Trace said. "I just finally came up to my senses this morning that, I'll forgive you."

"Really?" I asked.

"Yeah!" Tracy smiled. The first smile I ever received from her for the past few days. "But in one condition. No, more like in two conditions."

"What is it?" I asked.

"Will you love Dave more than I could?"

"Sure, you know, that I love him right from the start," I answered sensibly. "I'm so sorry, I never told you that."

Tracy nodded. "And two, could you also forgive me? I wanted to be your best friend again."

"That's it?" I asked. She nodded.

I hugged her. Then, we hugged. "That's great!Wow! Tracy, thank you!I'm sorry, too. You made me happy again!"

"Yeah, you're forgiven," Tracy laughed.

"You mean it?" I asked with big eyes.She nodded again. "Great!Come on, I'll treat you for a pizza." I grabbed her arm. "Enough of this crying!Time for my peace offering."

"Wow! You're the best girlfriend anyone could ever had," Tracy said. "And Dave would be very happy." Tracy laughed. "Dave's really lucky."

I poked her at the side. I only smiled at her.

"Have I told you that Jeremy look fascinating every time I see him?" Tracy added.

"You do?"I said, amazed. So, Tracy got feelings for him, too. I just laughed out loud. Nothing's ever changed.

It sounded great and it also sounded good to be back with my best friend. Just some things to do: Clear Things With Jeremy, get back with Dave before it's too late! Then, Shopping coz prom is only 10 days to go!
